Wes and I have always been a very active couple. When we first started dating we were both full time athletes in high school. After high school we would spend our free time snowboarding, wake boarding, and going on hikes. After having Camden, exercising was the least of my priorities. I wanted to fully focus on Camden, and I was full time breastfeeding and was afraid that too much working out would dry me up. I was also wanting to get pregnant again pretty quickly, so I didn't care if I lost all of my baby weight since I wanted to gain it all back very soon.
Well now, after having 2 kids, and with no plans for a third in the next year, I am excited to start working out again. Over this past summer Wesley decided he needed to start getting himself back into shape after spending countless months tied to his books and drinking jugs of coffee to keep himself awake at night. He started running on our vacation in San Diego, and he hasn't stopped since. He is a natural athlete, so as soon as he starts up again he just sails. Along with running, his favorite sport right now is mountain biking. He just loves it, and he goes every Saturday morning with a group of other extreme men who challenge him. He has amazed me with his talents and dedication to getting into shape. Since July he has lost 25 lbs and can run a 10k every night if he had too. Not to mention his 3-4 hour mountain bike rides.
Since Wes has been getting into fantastic shape, I decided I would try my best to feel good about myself again. I don't really care what I weigh or how pudgy my belly still is; I really care about how good I feel. I started jogging about 2 months ago, and it felt good. I am not fast, nor do I run very far, but it is relaxing and I feel healthier and more energized when I do it. 2 weeks ago we did a 5K for my cousin's son's school. I haven't ever run a 5K before (without stopping to walk), and I was so hoping I could finish this one and run the entire way. Well I did!! It was such a blast and I felt so proud of myself for pushing through the hard parts and actually finishing. I ran it in 34:30, and I couldn't have been more proud.
After that run Wes decided we should do more. He really wanted to do a run where he didn't have to push Camden in a jogging stroller and keep a slow pace to run with me. I agreed that we should do a race where he could run all out and see what his best time could be. So this past weekend we did another run. This time Wes started the race in hopes of finishing and getting a medal! And he did!! He placed 2nd in his age division and 16th overall (out of 170). I was so proud of him. He finished his 5k in 21:24. He is so fast! I ran this time with one of my good girlfriends, Melissa, who just had a baby a month before me. We ran it in 32:10. So I cut 2 minutes off of my time! I was so excited to finish this race again without needing to walk. Having Melissa with me gave me the confidence to keep going. She had a bit of a faster pace than me, and I loved having someone give me that extra push. I am loving this exercise and I am looking forward to getting faster and feeling stronger in my runs.
