On a whim the other day, Wes and I decided to try and switch Camden from his crib to his big boy bed. We were moving furniture around and getting things ready in Grayson's room, so we thought, why not give it a try? We took off the side of his crib, lined the floor with pillows, set up the video monitor, and locked his closet doors. We were totally prepared for the worst. I expected him to be way too excited about having a little freedom and figured he would get out of bed and play the entire night. Much to our surprise, he didn't do any of that. We put him in his bed, and he stood up and looked over the side and cried for about 2 minutes once we left the room. Then he laid down, curled up, and fell asleep. We couldn't believe it!! We thought it was too good to be true.
We checked the monitor a few times throughout the first night and he did actually roll out of his bed a few times. Each time, he didn't wake up, and just slept on the floor next to his pillows. Wes would go in and put him back in bed and he continued sleeping and never woke up. We were shocked! The next day, his nap was just as easy as the night before. Then, yesterday, when it was time for his nap I asked him if he was ready. He nodded yes. Then I asked if he wanted Mama to put him to bed, and he looked at me, then marched his way down the hall all by himself, climbed in his bed, and got all comfy. He didn't even want me to hold him. It broke my heart because I have always put him in his bed for the last 20 months, and for the first time, he did it all by himself.
He is so big now, and we are so proud of how he is acting like such a big kid. In fact, ever since we switched his bed, he has started sleeping more. Last night he wanted to go to bed, and was in bed by 6:45. This morning, he didn't wake up until 7:45 and he just happily played in his bed until after 8. This is the kid who normally wakes up no later than 6 on most days, so this extra sleep for us is amazing!!
We are so excited about all the new changes going on in our lives right now. Camden is growing up so quick, and in just about a month or so he will be a big brother. We can not wait! We know he is going to be such a good brother to Grayson. He is already such a sweet and gentle kid, and he loves to show affection to us as well as to other kids. We are soooo looking forward to being a family of 4 in just a few weeks. We couldn't feel more blessed at this point in our lives, and we are looking forward to all the exciting things coming soon!
