Christmas Poem

Ok, I know this is a little late, but here is the poem my Dad wrote for Camden's first Christmas. He is following the tradition of when we were kids, and every Christmas he would write each one of us a poem. They were always so special, and now he gets to write a poem for his Grandson. I truly treasure these poems, and I can not wait for Camden to realize someday how special they are.

Camden's First Christmas

'Twas Camden’s first Christmas, He awoke before dawn,

He woke up his Dad, he woke up his Mom

He woke up the neighbors, He woke up the dog,

His hunger awoke him, when he was asleep like a log.

He should have been nestled all snug in his bed,

But visions of breast milk danced in his head;

So his mamma fed him, and his Dad in a daze

Stared at the walls, his eyes all aglaze.

When on the front doorstep there arose such a clatter,

Dad sprang from this chair to see what was the matter.

Away to the window Dad flew like a flash,

He tore open the blinds and threw up the sash.

He peeked out the window and looked out the front door

And he saw a shadowy figure, that he had seen before.

When, what to his wondering eyes should appear,

But a big bellied man, with a grayish white beard,

With presents in tow, and a wit that was quick,

He knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

Sure he was fat, sure he was jolly,

But something about him, seemed to be such a folly;
"Now, Grammy! Now, Leah! Now Karah and Zoe!

Alicia! And Fiji! Give presents to the boy!

With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

I soon realized I had nothing to dread;

It was Camden’s Papa, and with his family in tow.

Then Papa cried out, “Ho, Ho, Ho, Ho!”

It was too early for presents, but none seemed to care,

It was Camdens first Christmas; Nothing else could compare

Cam opened one present, then he opened two,

He opened them all, then I think he said “phew”.

He played with the wrappings, being such a boy,

He played with the boxes, and discarded the toys.

And, as soon as it came, the day suddenly went,

We laughed and we cried, everyone was spent.

Then it occurred to us all that Cam’s first Christmas had past.

And as Cam settled down, for an afternoon nap.

Papa and family packed up and left for the day

“Merry Christmas to All... Where the Heck is my Sleigh”?
